Laying Flock
We run a mixed flock of several heritage breeds including: Barred Rocks, Wyanndotte, Marans, Orpingtons, and Speckled Sussex. We also have Ameraucanas for the fun of their beautiful blue and green eggs. We just love the look of a dozen of our eggs with all the colors ranging from palest brown to the dark chocolate of the Marans, and the green and blue of the Ameraucanas. It is a rainbow of eggs and far more interesting than any store bought eggs.
Our chickens are free ranging. Which means that they have free access to almost our entire property (the garden is off limits or we would have no vegetables) each and every day. They spend their days wandering our woods, scratching in the leaves looking for all the bugs they can eat, and generally just enjoying being chickens. We do lose a few to hawks each year, but it is a trade off we have chosen to make so that they can have this level of freedom that they were intended to enjoy.
