It is our responsibility to provide the best care we possibly can for our goats. This responsibility includes all that we do up to the point where they leave our farm for their new homes and also includes trying to assure that they are going to the best possible homes. To take this responsibility seriously we have implemented the following “Policies and Procedures”.
Goat Sale Polices
We maintain the right to keep any kid at any time until animal is paid for in full. If this is done, payments will be refunded.
We will not sell just one goat to anyone, unless they already have goats at home. Goats are herd animals and need another goat friend to be healthy and happy. If you have doubts about this please check out this article: A pet goat: Debunking 9 ill-conceived notions as it address the most common myths about keeping a single goat.
A deposit of $50 for wethers or $100 for does/bucks is required to hold a goat of any age. The deposit is NONREFUNDABLE but can be transferred to another animal. If anything happens to the goat out of our control (death, illness, etc.), the deposit WILL be refunded. If the deposit is a mailed check or money order, it must have time to clear before pickup. We absolutely will NOT hold a goat or consider a goat as a “sale pending” until we have your deposit in hand.
There is no fee to be placed on the reservation list. Those with reservations will be contacted, in order of date of placement on the list, when any goat becomes available. After the first person is contacted, he or she has 24 hours to respond, if the answer is no, then the next person on the reservation list will be contacted. Once you agree to purchase, any applicable deposits must be received within three days. If not, the next person on the reservation list will be contacted. We do NOT hold goats without a deposit.
Goats sold from St. Alban’s Farm will be disbudded, tattooed, have their feet trimmed, and have registration applications (if applicable) before leaving.
You will be notified when your kid(s) will be available for pickup. Kids should be picked up within one week after the agreed upon pickup date. If not picked up by 3 weeks after agreed upon pickup date and no prior arrangements have been made, the goat will stay the property of St. Alban’s Farm and your deposit and/or full payment will not be refunded. If an adult goat is not picked up within 14 days of the agreed upon pick up date, the same occurs.
We do not ship goats.
We sell animals that are healthy and sound at the time of transfer. We cannot guarantee that they will mature as you or we would expect. We cannot guarantee their mature conformation, stature, udder attachment, show ability, quality of their offspring, etc. There are many factors involved in the development of an animal including life-long management (feeding, health care maintenance, parasite control, housing, breeding, stress, etc). We cannot take responsibility for how a kid you purchase from us ultimately develops and matures.
We do not guarantee that a purchaser will like an animal they purchase from us. An animal represents a genetic package. We are not under obligation to take any animal back once it has left the property.
If a buyer wants to see an animal before purchase, that’s wonderful. We encourage people to visit the farm and choose the animal for themselves. For long-distance purchases we will do our best to realistically represent the animal with photos and descriptions.
All sales are final.
The buyer is responsible for payment of the following when applicable:
Health exam for goats leaving the state of South Carolina
Health certificate for goats leaving the state of South Carolina
Blood tests required (if any) by your individual state
Postage and handling on blood work
We carefully screen potential clients to make sure our goats will be well taken care of with educated families. We spend considerable time with our goats training them to be friendly and trusting of their human care takers so they are ready to be with their future families. It is very disappointing and frustrating to pay good money and then go home with a new goat who seems afraid of you. That will not happen with our goats. We also feel it is important to spend just as much time with clients if they are new to having goats. We strongly encourage visits to the farm before purchasing goats.
